Two days ago, in the middle of the night, I watched a movie I never heard of, Secretary, staring James Spader and Maggie Gyllenhaal. I went into this blindly like I do most of my life lol. I didn’t watch the trailer or read reviews, I pressed play and made sure my phone was on do not disturb. The best movies you watch are normally the one you stumble across one lazy afternoon, this was different, I haven’t been this invested into a movie since… well I don’t know. Movies aren’t the same, Hollywood has been running out of ideas since Marilyn Monroe mysteriously passed away and all the A-listers hit 50 years old. What’s left now? Look at this interview with the one and only Martin Scorsese.

When I watch movies or TV series, I pay attention to the set design and wardrobe. Most people overlook those details, but I believe that’s another way you can learn the character. As an avid reader, the details matter. The little things have always represented the turn of a plot or growth of a character. To better understand what I mean, I will provide a few examples of how the set design and wardrobe plays into the character personality.
1. Ozark (TV Series 2017)
Marty Byrde, a married financial planner and father of two who must relocate his family from Chicago to a summer resort in the Ozarks. This was a great show, what made this show chef kiss was how normal every character dressed. It made it easier for viewers to connect to each character because majority of us dress like that on a typical Wednesday morning going to work. Even though Marty Byrde made a ton of money the director and writers made sure not use that has a prop because it would take away from the storyline. The viewers watched the entire family downsize their car, house, friends and family. Anything that drew attention basically had to go! (I’m trying not to spill the beans for those who didn’t watch)
2. Desperate Housewives (TV Series 2004-2012)
There are 4 wives in this series, well… kinda like 5! The 5thone isn’t married but her character gives the show the cherry on top lol. Gabrielle Solis, former Top-Model turned trophy wife, married Carlos Solis, CEO, who proposed after their third date. Gabrielle is the childless wife out of the wives, her house, body and wardrobe reflects that. Scheduled girl time to gossip and spread rumors, Gabby stood out the most! The crew did an excellent job, making everything that surrounded Gabby shine bright like a diamond and was up to date. It was clear that Gabby entered her soft life era via model industry and marriage, she is exactly what girls today want to be. Gabby’s lawn stayed manicured along with her nails and feet, beautiful flowers in her yard trimmed mirroring her many hairstyles, she’s a firm believer in first impressions and red apple Aston Martin DB9!
3. Nip/Tuck (TV Series 2003-2010)
Talk about an emotional rollercoaster TV series, ugh! I didn’t want this show to end! Two plastic surgeons, Sean McNamara, is a dedicated family man and his best friend Christian Troy, playboy womanizer strive to maintain their establishment while having to work through life, money, relationships and crimes baby! This show made me super horny, don’t mean to give TMI but what turn me on the most was the terror between Sean and Christian. Something about their bromance just made me blush inside, Christian sexy ass always picked the right girls to do boob jobs on and oh did he do a fab job! Sean is the nerdy friend that Christian leans on.
4. Secretary (2002 Film)
I’ve always had a crush on James Spader, those grasshopper eyes and death stare into the screen, chile he can have anything he wants from me. Of course, the Gyllenhaal’s are beyond talented! Maggie played this role so well; I’m starting to think she’s living a double life lol. Let’s get into his office and I may nerd out a bit but just trust my vision. The office… the fucking office is so sexy, color schemes, carpet and choice of furniture. As a writer, you know I paused to have a better look at the pens and markers lmao. I don’t know why shit like this turns me on, but it does. Mr. Grey is not only handsome, rich and tall but organized, his office is never out of order and his bed is always made! Until Lee, walks in and changes everything. (I won’t reveal anything else) but I will of course show you his office.
Back to what inspired me to write this post, The dynamic between Mr. Grey and Lee is what the 50% of divorcees need. I believe if everyone watched this movie before they got married it would prevent miscommunications. Divorce lawyers wouldn’t make as much but everyone hearts and private parts would be peanut butter and jelly. After all, isn’t that what God wants for us all? For us to be close like sandwiches and filled with jelly (sperm) lmao. Too horny today, please don’t judge me. I’m ovulating! Anyway, without spoiling the movie if you haven’t seen it, beyond the sexual tension, I ADMIRED how far Lee was willing to go to prove she was the one for him. Mr. Grey tried his best to cure his desires via gym and healthy diets, but every attempt failed.
There was a post I read on here that did a great job at explaining how romantic relationships don’t have to be one size fits all. Same routine, robotic behaviors, dear heavenly father nonsense, you know? We can create our own definition of love and marriage. We don’t have to follow in the same footsteps that tripped over themselves and set the clock backwards. Our childhood is a gateway for how our future relationships may be, no, it’s not bad, it’s realistic. Lee didn’t let her childhood rule her, she embraced the darkness within and orgasm every time. She wasn’t afraid where her darkness would take her.
Speaking of her mother (I forgot her name) this also shows how mothers can be the biggest cock blockers! Lee’s mother had motive due to her husband being a drunk, it’s clear she wasn’t experiencing orgasms as to why she was always in her daughter business. Thank God Lee has a mind of her own and middled fingered everyone in her family for reasons you’ll see when you watch this fantastic film.
I dare you to create a romantic relationship that fits you and your partners wants and desires, quiet the outside noise IF there’s any! Until then, enjoy my favorite TV series and movie recommendations. I know, I know, I have fabulous taste in shows. Ciao!
